Tesserae — Privacy Policy

Last updated: 4 September 2026

In one sentence

Tesserae has no servers, no accounts and no analytics; it reads your step count from Apple Health, keeps it on your device, and sends it nowhere.

What Tesserae reads

Step count, and nothing else. Tesserae asks Apple Health for read access to your step count the first time you open it. You can decline, and you can change your mind at any time in Settings → Privacy & Security → Health → Tesserae. Declining does not break the app — it simply has nothing to show you.

Tesserae does not ask for, and cannot see, your location, contacts, calendars, photos, or any other category of Health data. It does not read or generate any advertising identifier.

What Tesserae writes to Apple Health

Nothing. The App Store build requests read access only.

Where your information is kept

WhatWhere it livesWho can reach it
Your step countsYour device's memory, for as long as the app is openOnly you
Today's steps, your goal and your mosaic colourAn app group container on your device (group.com.strangleman.tesserae), so the widgets and the watch complication can draw without launching the appOnly you
Your goal, appearance and mosaic colourYour own iCloud account, so a change on your iPhone reaches your iPadOnly you, through your Apple Account
Your goal, mosaic colour and best-day step countYour paired Apple Watch, passed across by iOS over the pairingOnly you

What leaves your device

Your settings — daily goal, light or dark appearance, and mosaic colour — sync through your own iCloud account. Your step data is deliberately excluded from that sync: each of your devices reads its own steps from Apple Health.

Nothing is transmitted to the developer, because there is nothing to transmit it to. Tesserae contains no networking code at all.

Sharing a card

When you share an achievement, a goal or a new record, Tesserae draws an image and hands it to the standard iOS share sheet. Where that image goes is entirely your choice, and Tesserae has no part in it once you have chosen. The image contains only what you can see on it: the milestone, the step figure, and the date.

Notifications

Goal and record notifications are scheduled locally, on your device, by the app itself. There is no push server involved, and nothing about your activity is sent anywhere in order to produce them.

Analytics, tracking and advertising

There are none. Tesserae contains no analytics framework, no advertising framework, no crash reporter and no third-party code of any kind. It does not track you across apps or websites, and it does not use Health data for advertising or marketing. Health data is never sold, rented or shared.

Children

Tesserae collects nothing from anyone, of any age, and contains no age-restricted material.

Deleting your information

Your rights

Because the developer neither collects nor holds any personal information about you, there is nothing held about you to request access to, to correct, or to have erased. If you have a question about any of the above, please get in touch.

Changes to this policy

Any change will be published on this page with a new date at the top. Material changes will be described rather than made quietly.
